    VM Rover SIPphone Setup Instructions

If this is your first time running VM Rover, you will be presented with the following VM Rover Preferences dialog window. If not, right click the VM Rover system tray icon (containing numbers e.g. '00'), and select the 'Preferences' menu option.

    Add a New Account

Select 'sipphone' from the 'Service Plugin' drop down list, enter your SIPphone telephone number in the 'Account Number' text box (e.g. 17475551212) and then click the 'Add Account' button. Once a new account has been created, it will appear in the left hand frame under 'Accounts'. To configure your new account click on the new account that appears in the right hand frame:

At this point you will need to enter your IMAP or POP3 mail server user settings. If you do not have this information handy, you will need to ask your ISP or Email admistrator for your email username, password and IMAP or POP3 mail server address (e.g. mail.somewhere.com). These are the same settings needed to setup an email client such as Outlook Express or Thunderbird.

Note: The mail server username is not necessaily the same as the email username (e.g. user@somwhere.com), it could for example be 'user+somewhere.com' or even the email address itself.

Once you have entered the username and password, click on the 'Server Options' Tab:

First select the type of mail server you will be using, IMAP or POP3, and then enter the mail server address (e.g. mail.somewhere.com). You will notice that as you change 'Mail Server Protocol' from IMAP to POP3 or viceversa, the default 'Port' number will change (143 for IMAP, and 110 for POP3). If your mail server does not use a standard port number, you should change it now (Some IMAP servers that use SSL, a.k.a IMAPS, run on port 993).

You likely will not need to use the option to turn off SSL/TLS certificate validation, but if you come across an error during your first login (when starting the account), you can try turning validation off.

    Start the Account

Since you have the option to start and stop accounts (you may not always want to have VM Rover check all accounts all the time), you will need to start your new SIPphone account. Go back to the 'Account Info' Tab, and click the checkbox next to 'Check to start service'. If all goes well, your SIPphone voice mail will start appearing in the VM Rover window and system tray. If, however, the VM Rover system tray indicator (The '00' icon) has changed to include a red alert icon, an error has occured. If that happens right click the system tray icon and select 'System log -> Show' from the menu. The 'System Log' window should provide some details about the error that occured. If no error occurs, but no messages appear either (assuming you have messages), you should log into your SIPphone account and make sure that your voice mail is being sent to the email address you are using with VM Rover.

For general VM Rover help, you will want to read the VM Rover help manual.
