    Overview

VM Rover's User interface consists of two parts, the main window (resembling an answering machine) and the system tray icon which serves as a message indicator. The application itself also consists of two logical parts, the main application responsible for sorting, displaying and playing your voicemail and service plugins responsible for retrieving voicemail from the internet. Each service plugin will allow you to set up multiple accounts, one account per voicemail telephone number.

    VM Rover Window

The service name and account number of the current message are displayed in the top right hand corner of the message display. The number in the top left hand corner gives the position of the current message relative to the most recent message. The rest of the message display gives details about the current message. The 'MSGS' display indicates the total number of messages available. The control panel has the standard Delete, Stop, Play and Pause buttons. Buttons that in a given context do not function will be deactivated. While a message is being played, the Forward and Backward buttons will stop the current message, move to the next or previous message, and start playing. Otherwise, the Forward and Backward buttons simply scroll through the available messages. The Record button allows you to save personal messages or memos along with your voicemail. To make use of this feature, simply connect a microphone to your PC.

    System Tray

The system tray icon will indicate the following states:

When there are no new messages and there are no accounts busy communicating over the network, the tray icon simply displays the total available messages:

When there is at least one active account communicating over the network, the tray icon will display an animation of a ball moving from sided to side:

When there is at least one new message and no network activity, the tray icon will display an animation of a spinning coin and flashing message count. The mouseover popup will display the number of new messages since VM Rover was last checked:

If any account produces an error while contacting its server, the tray icon will display a red alert icon superimposed over the current icon or animation. The error indicator will be cleared on the next succesful communication with the server, or if the account in question is deactivated. (Note: Error messages can be accessed via VM Rover's 'System Log'):

    System Tray Menu
